Use it for controlled partial changes

Place a receiving container below the aquarium water level and secure the outlet before starting. Guide the intake over the area you want to clean, keeping clear of fish, shrimp and delicate roots. With fine sand, hold the intake above the surface so that you lift debris without drawing out the substrate.

Stop at your planned water-change volume, then rinse the assembly and let it drain dry. Keep this hose dedicated to the aquarium rather than using it with household cleaning products.
