Will this aquarium plant holder fit your rim and lid?

Conceptual side view showing how to measure the full aquarium rim, including trim and any lip

Measure before you buy · Aquarium equipment

A good fit starts at the tank edge. Check your rim, your lid and the space inside the aquarium before choosing a plant holder.

This guide is for the DaraSphere Adjustable Aquarium Plant Holders, 2 Pack. It explains the listed dimensions, the measurements to take and the situations that need a closer check.

Free one-page printable. No email required. Physical fit has not been tested on your tank.

Three checks that matter more than tank capacity

Keep a ruler or tape measure, a note of your tank model and a side-on photo of the mounting spot nearby. Measure where you actually plan to place the holder. A tank’s litres or gallons cannot tell you whether its rim and lid will work.

1. Measure the full rim, including its shape

Measure the horizontal width of the entire edge the hook would need to bridge. On a framed tank, include the plastic trim, overhang or lip. On a rimless tank, record the glass thickness, but also look for bracing or an unusual edge profile.

Concept diagram, not to scale. Measure the complete profile at the proposed mounting point.

The stated hook span is 0.4–2.4 inches (approximately 1.02–6.10 cm), using the illustrated short and extended configurations. A measurement in that range is only an initial check. Shape, contact surfaces and nearby obstructions still matter. Do not force the hook over a rim or modify the aquarium edge.

2. Check the closed lid and its opening path

Record the gap at the mounting point with the lid fully closed. Then check the space the lid needs as it opens, lifts or slides. Include hinges, light brackets, cables and any rear filter opening.

Both the resting position and the movement of the lid need clearance.

No universal minimum lid gap is specified for this holder. A rim measurement alone cannot confirm compatibility with your hood or cover. The lid should close and operate normally without resting on, squeezing or dislodging the holder.

3. Allow room for the basket, roots and cleaning

Check the space inside the tank at your intended position. Look at the waterline, hardscape, filter intake, tubing and the root space your chosen plant needs. Leave a clear path to remove the basket for routine rinsing.

The listed 4.5-inch dimension runs vertically down the basket. It is not the distance the basket projects into the tank.

The full assembled clearance envelope is not established by the listed dimensions. If space is tight, ask for confirmation of the basket’s front-to-back projection and the assembled holder size before ordering.

What the product dimensions tell you

Hook span0.4–2.4 in

Approximately 1.02–6.10 cm. The product image shows short and extended hook configurations.

Vertical adjustmentUp to 3.94 in

Approximately 10.01 cm. This describes the hook-height adjustment, not lid clearance.

Basket depth4.5 in

Approximately 11.43 cm, measured vertically. Allow additional space for roots and access as needed.

Within the stated range does not mean confirmed fit.
The hook still needs to sit securely on your actual rim, clear the lid and leave enough room inside. The 115 × 110 × 85 mm package size is not an installed-holder measurement.

When to pause before ordering

  • Your rim is outside the stated hook range. Do not assume the hook will fit. A suction-cup position needs its own separate check.
  • The rim is curved, stepped, heavily braced or unusually shaped. Width alone does not establish a stable mounting surface.
  • The lid touches the proposed holder position. Check another location or confirm compatibility before purchase.
  • You cannot establish basket or lift-out clearance. Take measurements and ask for the missing dimensions rather than relying on a tank-size label.

For a useful compatibility question, include your tank model, rim width, side-profile photo, closed-lid gap and available interior space. Contact DaraSphere support with those details.

Common fit questions

Will it fit a rimless aquarium?

Rimless does not automatically mean compatible. Compare the glass edge with the hook’s stated span, inspect the contact surfaces and check the lid and basket space. A very thin edge may fall below the stated hook range.

Can I use the suction cups instead of the hook?

The listed pack includes two plant holders and two suction cups for placement on suitable smooth aquarium glass. Check that the selected surface is clean, smooth and accessible, and that the holder is secure before adding plants. Suction-cup mounting still needs basket, lid and maintenance clearance.

Does the 4.5-inch depth mean the basket sticks out 4.5 inches?

No. The listing’s dimension illustration shows 4.5 inches vertically, from the top to the bottom of the basket. Confirm front-to-back projection separately if it affects your layout.

Are plants or aquarium livestock included?

No. The confirmed contents are two plant holders and two suction cups. Plants, growing media, aquarium and livestock shown in styling images are not included.

Keep the measurements with you

Measure once. Make a clearer choice.

Use the checklist to record all three checks, then compare your setup with the product details. If anything is uncertain, confirm it before you buy.
